Snow Days - For Real This Time

Old Man Winter has struck again.  This time it looks like predictions for heavy snow accumulations are going to be correct.  While the snow started here in Stafford a little later than expected and is not yet sticking to the roads, later today and tomorrow are sure to be treacherous.  Schools had to be closed again today and while there is no word yet, I suspect they will be closed or have late openings more this week.

The weather has also closed the government and forced the Board of Supervisors to cancel their meeting today as well as the planned joint meeting with the School Board Finance and Budget Committee.  So we will have to wait to get a start on the budget.

With today’s closing we have 1.2 days left before we will have to start making up missed days (hours).   While I hope it is not the case, I don’t think I am going out on a limb in predicting we will probably exhaust our banked time by the end of this week. SnowDay.jpgOnce we do use up all of our snow days here is what to expect to make up for missed days beyond our banked time:

  1. February 17th becomes a school day,
  2. Early outs on April 18, May 23, and June 11 are canceled, making those school days 6.5 hours long,
  3. Teacher workday on April 4 becomes a school day, and
  4. June 16 and 17 are added to the calendar.

Information about middle and high school exams will released later. UPDATE: EXAMS---All scheduled exams will be moved back one day. So when we come back to school, no matter the date, middle and high school students will have a full school day with Block 1X and 2X exams taken on that day. The following three days will follow the previously announced exam schedule with those days being early releases for middle and high school students. The teacher workday/professional day will follow the exam days.
Students, please check your school's website (and teacher pages) for further information. Information will be shared at www.staffordschools.net when available

Stay tuned to the news outlets, Facebook, Stafford Alerts, etc. about future closings and delays.  Stay warm and have a fun and safe time on the sledding hills.

Here is some updated information from a robo call that went out this evening, also schools are closed on Wed. Jan. 22:

The exam schedule for middle and high school students will be as follows:

The exam schedule will follow the original exam schedule. Beginning on the first day we return to school, students will have a full school day with Block 1X and 2X exams taken on that day.

The following three days will follow the previously announced exam schedule with those days being early releases for middle and high school students. The teacher workday/professional day will follow the exam days.

The elementary early release will be on the last day of exams after we return. They will not have an early release on Friday, January 24th.

Following tomorrow’s closure, should we miss any further days due to inclement weather, we will have used all banked days in our calendar and the following procedures will be used to make up days lost. First the holiday on February 17th would become a regular school day. For the next day missed, the early dismissals on April 18, May 23, and June 11 would be changed to full school days. For the next day missed, the teacher work day on April 4 would become a regular school day. Any days missed after that point would add additional days on June 16 and June 17 to the end of the school year.

Students, please check your school's website (and teacher webpages) for further information. Information will be shared at www.staffordschools.net when available.
